Backstage Capitol – Delhi Wedding

Before I dive into the day, I want to take a minute to talk about Andrea. I met Andrea about 10 years ago… on the city bus. I decided to sit next to her because – honestly – she was the only person on the bus that didn’t creep me out (I was young, it was my first time away from home – give me a break!) Little did I know, choosing the seat beside Andrea was one of the best decisions I made that year.
Andrea has always been one of the most beautiful people I’ve known. Her makeup is always perfect (so jealous), she’s a magician with her hair and her smile can light up a room. Many, many years ago, when I first picked up a camera, Andrea was the first person I decided to photography. At the time, my skills were incredibly limited – and with Andrea being so gosh darn pretty, I figured it would make my first attempt at a photoshoot that much easier.
Andrea has been such a huge fan and supporter as my hobby of photography blossomed into the established business it is today; and for that, I couldn’t possibly be more thankful. You lose a lot of friends when you’re an entrepreneur – but those who really matter stick around through it all and Andrea is one of those people.
Earlier this year I took some Evergreen Brickworks engagement photos with Andrea and Steve – it was an amazing day for two reasons: the location was amazing, but more importantly – I got to meet Steve! Andrea’s “Redneck Romeo” was one of the sweetest gentlemen I’ve had the pleasure of working with and that’s the day I started my own countdown to their wedding. I couldn’t have been happier for my friend to marry this amazing man.
So the day arrives… the dress is laid out, the makeup artist has her palettes open, and Andrea is absolutely beaming. The ladies spent the morning being beautified in nice warm rooms – despite the fact that it was close to -40 outside. Andrea and Steve opted for a first look before walking down the aisle and despite the beyond-frigid temperatures, we still took photos outside! The photo session was short – given the weather – but that was no problem at all. Andrea and Steve already had a post-wedding portrait session lined up for the next week.
The ceremony was unplugged and boy, was it marvelous! There are so many benefits to having an unplugged ceremony (or an entire unplugged wedding!) but I think the beautiful, distraction-free, candid moments say more than I ever could regarding the matter.
Although the morning may have been filled with sparkly jewelry, fluffy dresses and beauty professionals, the reception was where the “Redneck Romance” truly shined! Andrea and Steve love being outdoors; it’s a huge part of their lifestyle and one of the things that brought them together as a couple. Their love for the outdoors was reflected in their decor and the families love for music was hugely apparent when they took over the whole stage.
You heard me! Andrea and Steve’s family took charge of the entertainment all night. Everyone brought their favourite instruments and the evening was a “hillbilly jam” as I believe Andrea once referred to it. Seeing everyone on stage was so exciting and absolutely heart warming. When someone gets married; they’re not only gaining a partner for life – but a whole other family, too. To see the sense of community within the two families as they spent the evening celebrating the couple with kind words, toasts and music was so touching that I may have shed a tear or two throughout the day.
