Chelsey has a formal background in photography, has 4 years experience as a photographer and has been a part of the Ten·2·Ten Photography team since 2016 (and began training with us in 2015).

Chelsey’s unique brand of storytelling is visible in her images; her approach is very relaxed and candid but she is also able to extra the most beautiful and intimate emotion from her clients.  While Chelsey is a Durham wedding photographer (as Oshawa is her home base), like all Ten·2·Ten team members, Chelsey serves the GTA as well as select dates Canada wide.

When she’s not shooting, you can find Chelsey traveling, working on home reno and decor projects and spending time with her family doggo.

A worthwhile investment

The detail I got from Erika was more than I ever expected.  She really listens and cares about you and is able to understand your business and what you need to do to help yourself out.  She was really open about everything and wasn't afraid to say what I needed to hear.  My bookings are up, I'm getting clients that match me and I'm so confident in my brand now.  I'm so glad I worked with Erika!

LIKE WORKING WITH AN OLD FRIEND

Erika and her team are so professional.  Everything from quick answers to our questions to helping us through some of the more stressful parts of our wedding day.  It didn’t feel like we were working with just another “vendor”, it felt like we were working with a friend.

A TRUE REFLECTION OF THE DAY

We didn’t want to look too posed in our photos but we also wanted someone who was comfortable working with people who needed some guidance too.  We feel like “us” when we look at our photos and we were so comfortable the entire day.  I’m so happy with my wedding photos!

INTERVIEW

Q: How many years have you been shooting weddings?

A:  I began in 2015 while acquiring a formal education in the field.  I started mentoring and training with Erika in 2016 and spend the entirety of the 2017 season training with Erika, Sarah and Lea to learn the intricacies of how to capture a wedding in the distinctive Ten·2·Ten style.

Q: Who is your ideal client?

A:  While I absolutely love the unconventional and unique couples, the only thing I really require from my clients is trust.  I want my clients to see my portfolio and trust my artistic judgement and be confident that I’ll perform on their wedding with the artistic flare they loved in my portfolio.

Q: Do you prefer shooting candid images or posed images?  What approach do you take on a wedding day?

A:  I like a mixture of both the candid moments as well as the guided portraits.  A guided portrait is the creation of something beautiful and artistic but the candid moments are so genuinely beautiful that they really make the day unique.  My approach, like all of us on the team, is to be very hands-off during the majority of the day.  I’ll speak up if I think there’s an opportunity to make a good photo great by changing the location (usually for lighting reasons) but capturing candid moments really does require a photographer to be a quiet observer.  During the couples session I will provide guidance but the magical ingredient there, really, is trust.  When you trust your photographer beautiful things can happen!

Q: Is there any particular part of the day that you like photographing the most?  The least?

A:  When the couple is excited for the day, I’M excited and no matter what part of the day I’m capturing, I know I’m going to love it.

Sometimes clients will integrate elements into their wedding day not because they want them but because family wants them; these can be more difficult to capture if the clients aren’t really into it.  Photojournalism captures the emotions that are actually present; not artificially created – this is why I love shooting weddings where the couple is genuinely excited about each part of the day.

Q:  Do you have a favourite wedding venues in which to photograph?

A:  I don’t specialize in any particular kind of wedding venue; I’m capable of shooting in any location but my heart has a special place for history sites, restaurants, backyard weddings and unique locations!

Q: Do you have a formal background in photography?

A:  I studied photography formally but as anyone who has studied it formally can tell you, the best learning is done in a hands-on fashion.  Being a great photographer isn’t about memorizing art history or learning how to critique an image, it’s about gaining experience to execute the creation of the image in a beautiful way.
