Sarah’s background in fine art photography has allowed her to establish a solid foundation for her skills.  Her passion and ethusiasm for telling a love story; on the other hand, is what has made her the incredible photojournalist she is today and an a highly sought after Toronto wedding photographer.

Sarah’s approach to a wedding day is very hands-off but with subtly direction only when appropriate.  While directing during formal photography is a must, her documentary style of photography allows her to capture the wedding day naturally and unobtrusively.  Constantly challenging herself to use existing light to create increasingly dramatic images, Sarah’s skills are continually developing as dedication to continuing education is only one of the things that makes her such an asset to our team.

A worthwhile investment

The detail I got from Erika was more than I ever expected.  She really listens and cares about you and is able to understand your business and what you need to do to help yourself out.  She was really open about everything and wasn't afraid to say what I needed to hear.  My bookings are up, I'm getting clients that match me and I'm so confident in my brand now.  I'm so glad I worked with Erika!

LIKE WORKING WITH AN OLD FRIEND

Erika and her team are so professional.  Everything from quick answers to our questions to helping us through some of the more stressful parts of our wedding day.  It didn’t feel like we were working with just another “vendor”, it felt like we were working with a friend.

A TRUE REFLECTION OF THE DAY

We didn’t want to look too posed in our photos but we also wanted someone who was comfortable working with people who needed some guidance too.  We feel like “us” when we look at our photos and we were so comfortable the entire day.  I’m so happy with my wedding photos!

Sarah: Toronto Wedding Photographer

INTERVIEW

Q: How many years have you been shooting weddings?

A:  I began shooting weddings in early 2013.  I’ve worked with many Toronto wedding photographers and spent time working alongside Erika in the summer of 2014 as an assistant before formally coming on board as a photographer for the 2015 season.  I’ve photographed many varieties of weddings from traditional to non traditional, from ballroom to restaurant to historic site.  I don’t specialize in any particular genre or style of weddings; if there’s a couple in love – I want to capture it!  It’s corny, I know – but I truly love what I do.

Q: Do you have a formal background in photography?

A:  Why yes, I do!  I graduated with a BFA from OCAD university.  I’ve trained in many genres of photography prior to settling on a career in weddings in 2013.  Having a formal background in photography is a valuable tool, especially when troubleshooting tricky lighting situations on the day of a wedding, but the hands on training I’ve done as part of the Ten·2·Ten team has also shaped my approach and style.

Q: Do you prefer shooting candid images or posed images?  What approach do you take on a wedding day?

A:  I love capturing the stories of the day as they unfold; naturally and unobtrusively.  I don’t believe in making clients repeat a moment.  My approach to the wedding day is very hands off; I like to document.  That being said, keeping with the Ten·2·Ten Photography mission, I also understand that clients do need guidance during formal photos and I’m happy to help with that.  I’d never bring a client out to a photo location and just say “be natural”; I work with my clients and through communication, laughter and our developed rapport I can achieve not only beautiful candid images but also beautiful – yet relaxed – poses, too.

Q: Is there any particular part of the day that you like photographing the most?

A: I enjoy capturing the wedding as a whole; creating the story.  When I look through the images after a wedding, I like to be able to see the story unfolding, image by image.  I like my clients to be able to re-live that story whenever they look at the images.  It’s not my place to pick a favourite; it’s my place to tell the story as a whole and that’s my favourite thing to do.  That being said, I do prefer shooting entire wedding days as opposed to partial day coverage.  I feel like I can better tell the narrative of the day when I know the whole story; and not just starting coverage mid-day.

Q:  Do you have a favourite wedding venues in which to photograph?

A:  Having grown up in a smaller town, there will always be a special place in my heart for barn venues, vineyards and historic buildings.  While I love those locations, I don’t specialize in any particular style of wedding – I’m happy to work with clients who are tying the knot in any venue.
