Toronto Wedding Photographer: FAQ
Q: There’s several people that work for your company, will we know who our photographer is?
A: You’re darn right you’ll know who your photographer is, you’re going to meet them at your consult! While we are a larger wedding photography company, we still operate like a small business in many ways since our values are based on that of a small business. We know that your wedding day is a really important day that cannot be repeated and we know that you deserve a great photographer with whom you have a great rapport to be with you on the day. From our contact form, you can select which of our photographers you’re interested in working with and from your consultation, you’ll be able to get to know them. It’s a great system!
Q: What’s your style?
A: Our style is mostly photojournalistic in nature with gentle guidance when needed; this means we document the day naturally and unobtrusively but we also help direct, if necessary, during the formal photo sessions since many people aren’t really sure what to do in front of a camera without at least a little prompting.
Q: Is “documentary style coverage” right for me?
A: If you’re looking for photos that tell the true story of the day, then documentary style coverage is for you. The images you get from a documentary style wedding will be reflective of the energy and ambiance of the day. There’s a bit of direction in the formal photo session, since most people aren’t models and don’t necessarily know how to move in front of a camera, so if you’re worried about “looking natural”, don’t worry – we’ll help you with that. Do we rely; however, on the emotions from our clients as part of our image creation. We want our clients to be relaxed and lose themselves in the moment and not turning, looking at the camera, and giving your best yearbook-photo-smile whenever you see us.
If you’re the type of person where you only want to be photographed from your “good side” or are particularly sensitive about being photographed at certain angles, then documentary style photography may not be right for you since it’s normal for us to capture the day in a variety of ways and at a variety of angles.
Q: What makes Ten·2·Ten Photography different?
A: A lot of what we do is based on what Erika learned being a bride; everything from the types of packages we provide to the vast array of information available on our website and in our client exclusive magazine. We understand how overwhelming planning a wedding can be and we strive to make the process as easy as we can, at least in terms of planning for amazing photos, for our clients. Our dedication to education; both for our clients and ourselves, as well as our honest and up front approach is refreshing and much appreciated by all of our clients. We photograph weddings not because we have to but because we want to. We are truly as invested in your wedding as you are!
Q: Do you specialize in any particular types of weddings?
A: No, we don’t specialize in any particular type of wedding. We photograph all kinds of weddings from smaller, more intimate wedding days to large scale ballroom weddings. That being said, we do prefer working in certain settings over others, not strictly for aesthetics but because there are many venues in Toronto that have, well… interesting policies (such as the photographer not being allowed to sit in the reception room… how would we work then?) which is why we ask you about your venue in our contact form.
Q: How far in advance do you book?
A: We typically book 12-15 months in advance – maximum 18 months; but we’re happy to book last minute weddings as well.
Q: Do you offer custom quotes?
A: Yes, we do, but we rarely need to. Our packages are structured in such a way that customization isn’t really necessary. If you’re looking for a smaller amount of coverage than what we offer on our website, we are happy to provide you with options – just send us an email! To make sure everyone is on the same page, though, if your custom quote is for a number of hours similar to one of your packages, the price quoted would be similar to that of our packages. While we strive to work with a wide variety of budgets, we do have a minimum hourly rate that we must charge in order to continue to be able to offer the services we do at the quality we do.
Q: Why should we hire an associate instead of Erika?
A: This is an easy question to ask – because they’re fantastic. Our associates are all trained “Ten·2·Ten Photography style” which means everyone on the team takes the same approach to weddings – beautiful and genuine documentation. Our associates are not “below” Erika – everyone is equal; it’s not a hierarchy of talent, it’s a team of artists. If you really want to get down to the nitty gritty of it, Erika has a few extra years of experience over the associates (even though they have several years of experience, each!) which means Erika has had more chances to publish work and win a few awards. But when it comes down to approach and talent? Everyone’s equal!
