Sarah – Lead Photographer

Dog mama, Friends fanatic and introvert-iest extrovert you’ll ever meet.

I’m Sarah.  I’ve been a photographer for nearly a decade and during that time the best thing I’ve learned is how to make people feel relaxed.

Exposures, compositions, poses – those are all well and good, and my background in fine art photography definitely helps with that – but the magic that brings everything together is connection.

When you work with me you get someone who not only sees all the small details (oh I love me some wedding details!) but also someone who feels more like an old friend than just another vendor.

I’m a Kitchener wedding photographer based in Guelph; I service KW region, Cambridge, Guelph and Toronto but I”m always up for an adventure and adore exploring our beautiful province (especially with a camera in hand!)

A worthwhile investment

The detail I got from Erika was more than I ever expected.  She really listens and cares about you and is able to understand your business and what you need to do to help yourself out.  She was really open about everything and wasn't afraid to say what I needed to hear.  My bookings are up, I'm getting clients that match me and I'm so confident in my brand now.  I'm so glad I worked with Erika!

A TRUE REFLECTION OF THE DAY

We didn’t want to look too posed in our photos but we also wanted someone who was comfortable working with people who needed some guidance too.  We feel like “us” when we look at our photos and we were so comfortable the entire day.  I’m so happy with my wedding photos!

Kitchener Wedding Photography:
Our Approach

Let me walk you through what a wedding day is like when we work together.

Well before the wedding we make sure we get our ducks in a row and get organized; lists of important family photos and areas where you want extra focus will all be discussed.

Once the wedding day rolls around, we take a documentary approach for the majority of the day.  We use light, the existing surroundings and the emotions present to craft memories for you without being intrusive and we never ask you to repeat things for the sake of a photo.

The formal photos are a bit different; getting family to gather without someone taking lead is a bit like wrangling cats.  We provide gentle direction and throw in a few prompts and questions for everyone to make things light-hearted and focus on having a genuinely fun experience with formal photos.

We take a similar approach with the couples photos; giving you gentle guidance and prompts to work through.  We help you relax, let your real emotions and personality surface, and create a situation where you forget you’re even being photographed!  This is how we we avoid cookie-cutter photos.

Once the reception rolls around we’re back into ‘hands-off’ mode and channel our inner ninja; focusing on you, your friend and your family – even on the dancefloor!

Do you think we’re
a match?

Prices are always transparent
and we love talking to folks
who love our work.

If you love our work but we aren’t
quite in your budget,
send us a message anyways and
we may be able to create a
custom experience for you.

WHY I FREAKING
LOVE WEDDINGS

In a world filled seemingly overrun with wedding photographers, knowing why someone has chosen to be a wedding photographer helps set the right-choice apart from the rest.

I love weddings because I love people, it’s that simple.  I love observing and documenting the relationships between people and anticipating how the story will unfold and being there when it does.  It’s not just being at the wedding that I love, it’s everything before and after, too.  Being able to help clients through their day – whether it’s assisting with photo lists or pinning on boutonnieres – and seeing their reaction when they get their photos back.

It makes me happy to make people happy.  That’s why I photograph weddings.

LET US TELL
YOUR STORY.

Emailing us is Chapter 1 of your story.
Let’s get ready to make some memories.

5 Wedding Planning tips from a Kitchener Wedding Photographer

Plan for moments.  This is something that is so small but SO important.  Plan for moments to happen and give yourself the opportunity to be truly present in your wedding day.  This means thinking about things like a ‘big reveal’ not only to your parents but to your wedding party, making sure you have chill time with your friends and not rushing through your day.  If you’re go-go-go the whole day, it will pass you by!

Know when to outsource.  This goes hand-in-hand with the point above, if you want to be truly present in your own day then you need to find some trusted folks to help take care of those pesky last-minute problems for you.  Investing in a day of (or month-of) planner will pay for itself.

Keep your close folks close!  You may have scoffed at the idea of a planner, thinking “well that’s what my wedding party is for!” but on the wedding day itself you’ll want to keep your close friends physically close to you if you want them to be in any photos.  Having a wedding party being absent half the morning because they’re running around taking care of details means that you’re not actually experiencing your day and making memories with them.

Accept that travel time is worth it (sometimes!)  It’s better to take a long drive to a kick-butt photography location and only have half the time to shoot than to stay close and just be at a generic park.  Ask us for location suggestions and we won’t let you know.

Opt for sunset photos.  There’s nothing wrong with sneaking away from your reception for a few minutes and taking some sunset photos.  This will be a much needed quiet moment before the party starts and result in the most romantic images we’ll take all day.
