Helen and Steve’s Polson Pier engagement photos are some of the first engagement photos of the 2015 season and definitely the first with that beautiful golden sun you start to associate with summer time. It’s been a long and cold winter and although it definitely lead to the creation of some awesome winter engagement photos, I – for one – am very happy to see that the snow is gone and the sun is starting to shine!
The Polson Pier area of the city is so much more than just the actual pier; the neighborhood encompasses not only some sweet architecture and old buildings, but also a bridge that leads to Cherry Beach. I’ve shot engagement photos at Cherry Beach quite a few times and am always happy to return; but I think Helen and Steve’s puppy, Brooklyn, was even happier to be there than I was.
Knowing we wanted to have a beautiful sunset on the actual pier, we started our session by heading down to Cherry Beach. As Brooklyn was gallivanting around, nose to the ground, enjoying all the new smells at the beach, our beautiful soon-to-be-wed couple got to spend some time laughing, sneaking a few cuddles and laughing some more. As a photographer, you always learn so much about your couple during the engagement session; you get to see which clients are romantic, which ones are silly and which ones love to laugh. I’m not exactly sure what Steve said to Helen in some of these pictures, but her reaction is so genuinely priceless!
As we left the beach and headed back towards the pier, we had to make sure that we stopped at a few of the buildings as well as the bridge – taking in everything that the Polson Pier neighbourhood has to offer.
We made it to the pier, just as the sun was setting. The Toronto skyline was draped in a beautiful orange glow and the water sparkled behind us. Using a few different photography techniques, including prisming (a little something I learned at the Sam Hurd Epic workshop) we were able to capture the skyline in a variety of different ways; the images are as dynamic as our city is.
Congratulations to the happy couple – I absolutely cannot WAIT to capture your wedding day!
