The wild, magical world of Toronto lifestyle photography brings you to a lot of amazing places.  I’ve taken photographs in almost every part in the city before but one of the most intimate places that I get to photograph is in someone’s home.

Being invited into a family’s home is an incredible honour.  To be within the four walls of their home shows that they not have me there because they like my work as a photographer, but that they also trust me as a person.  I love my clients, and I love how much they love these lifestyle sessions.

This lifestyle photography session is true “lifestyle” photography; it’s a snapshot of a day in the life of a super sweet family.  We shot almost exclusively in their family room.  The room where they cuddle, read books, play games and grow as a family.  There was nothing special arranged for this session; they just did what their family would normally do and you know what? It was AWESOME!

Every week that passes us by brings changes to who we are as a family and what our story is.  Week by week, month by month, season by season – we change.  Our stories evolve.  There will be times in our lives when we achieve incredibly success and there will be times in our lives when we are exceptionally happy.  But then there are those days that we call “regular” days.  Nothing extraordinary is happening, but it’s still a pretty great day because it’s a day we’re spending with our family.  While we’ll always remember the momentous achievements in life, the times we will most often reflect upon are those “regular days” in life.

You everyday story matters.  Your everyday story is beautiful.  Your everyday story is worth documenting.

Toronto Lifestyle Photography Tips

Kids can be a gamble when it comes to traditional portraits.  Will they be still and listen to the posing instructions?  Will they smile nicely?  Or… will they have a total meltdown?  Whether it’s a not-so-fun experience with formal family photos or an unpleasant memory from school photos, a lot of children associate “having a picture taken” with strict rules and direction from a photographer.  Lifestyle sessions are a new concept for children so when you’re planning a lifestyle session for your family, don’t tell your kids that they’re going to have their photo taken.  They may fear another formal and stodgy experience.  Instead, tell them that one of your friends is coming over to hang out with them and that your friend might have a camera with them.  As I intergrate into the family and earn the trust of the wee-ones, they likely will not even realize the session has begun!
