LEARN HOW (AND WHY!) WE DO WHAT WE DO

Our Approach + Values

When we capture a wedding (or any session, for that matter), we approach it as a blank canvas. We don’t recycle the same poses with every wedding—in fact, we try to avoid posing as much as possible. We focus on connections, actions, and reactions, and we shoot with purpose. We are also looking for the main storyline and all of the sidequests.

We believe in continued education and value experience. We acknowledge that weddings are non-repeatable moments and that when clients trust us to take these photos, we must get it right the first time. Our team is made up of photographers who have years of experience in the industry, so you can rest assured that your moments are safe with us.

Leading with heart

Are we what you’re looking for in a photographer?

Before we book any client, we always do a quick meet and greet to really make sure that we’re on the same page – but this will get you started!

Our Team

Every one of us (Erika, Sarah, and Lisa) has clocked at least 10 years behind the camera, and honestly, there’s no “best” among us. We all share the same values and take the same approach to wedding days: focusing on real, raw moments and a whole lot of passion for what we do. No matter who you end up working with, you’re in great hands. And hey, just because some of us don’t have our names on the door doesn’t mean we’re any less awesome.

Our Values

Our values reflect not only how we navigate our own lives, but how we approach every photo session, client interaction and image creation. Values are not something that we negotiate on just to book a client. We are unapologetically authentic and if that vibes with you, then we’ll be a great fit!

We value…

Inclusivity

The wedding industry lacks diversity. The major blogs and publications typically showcase only one style of couple, and when they do branch out—if not done appropriately— they tokenize the individuals they’re showcasing. We’re making every effort to not contribute to that – and instead, purposefully make space for couples who find themselves not relating to the traditional wedding stereotypes.

Inclusivity isn’t just limited to our portfolios, though – if you’re not doing the work outside of your portfolio, you’re only being performative.

What inclusivity means to the Ten2Ten Team:

  • Removing gendered language from our website, contracts, materials and socials
  • Refusal to use hashtags that could tokenize the individuals in our photos
  • Supporting (in person and online) minority owned businesses.
  • Representing all minorities and marginalized groups including BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, couples of all ages, couples of all abilities and couples of all body sizes and body shapes.
  • Sharing images with only like-minded vendors
  • Ensuring that our “preferred vendors” guide includes minority owned businesses in every category
  • Investing in diversity and inclusion education
  • Not supporting conferences, education or photo contests that are not actively inclusive
  • Acknowledging that our learning, both as community members and allies, is never done.

WE VALUE…

Body Positivity

We celebrate all bodies. In a world where our industry is heavily influenced by photoshop and manufactured “beauty”, we go against the grain. Regardless of what the wedding magazines have on their covers, all bodies are celebrated and accepted with us.

Beauty exists in all forms, abilities, sizes, genders, ages, and shapes.

When you marry your partner, you know that they love you for exactly who you are; inside and out. This is why we do not artificially manipulate any person’s body with Photoshop. It is absolutely not our place to judge what is beautiful and what needs “touching up”.

WE VALUE…

Relationships

Relationships are the cornerstone of our work. Whether we capture memories and moments for our clients that showcase their relationships or the relationships we build with our team, our clients, and our fellow vendors, relationships are at the core of everything we do.

We engage in open chats with our clients about their big day, special needs, and how they feel about the plan. Everything we do is built on solid communication and making sure everyone’s on the same page.

Our Approach:

What is Documentary Photography?

What Unscripted Storytelling really means…

At its core, documentary photography is all about capturing the raw, unscripted pulse of your day—feelings, excitement, and all those in-between moments you might not even notice. It’s about the authentic vibes and genuine emotions that naturally unfold. This isn’t about staging shots; we’re here to document the real, vibrant life of your wedding, from the grand emotions to the subtle glances. The main storyline and all of the side quests.

But here’s the thing: there’s a time and a place for documentary photography. For our team to capture a compelling narrative through our lenses, we need more than just a quick snapshot of your ceremony and a few “formal photos” afterward. This doesn’t mean that you need to book full-day packages, but it does mean that we do our best work in situations where there are multiple opportunities to capture the depth of your story.

We thrive on the full experience – whether that takes 4 hours or 10 hours. We do our best work when invited into spaces filled with laughter, tears, and everything in between. So if you’re feeling like documentary photography is right for you, let’s make sure that we’re setting things up for success and giving your story the time it deserves.

Our Editing

We communicate in colour, light and shadow

Our editing style strikes a balance between reality and artistry, favoring warm, rich, and vibrant tones that may not mirror real life exactly. While we aim to preserve the natural lighting of your special day, our distinctive color palette adds a layer of warmth and depth, capturing the essence of each moment in a way that feels both genuine and enchantingly elevated.

Our Clients

There are so many ways to capture a wedding; truthfully, not every couple is a good match for every photographer. Weddings are a once-in-a-lifetime event, so let’s make sure we’re a good fit. Our clients are generally people who:

  • Prefer a shorter, intimate wedding day
  • Value feelings and experiences over perfection
  • Deeply emotional and connection-focused
  • Embrace a modern, non-traditional wedding
  • Focus on genuine moments, not staged photos
  • Treasure and display photos as memories

OUR PHILOSOPHY ON PUBLICATIONS

We photograph weddings for our clients, not for publications. We’ve been there, done that, and actively chose to steer away from submitting weddings to blogs a few years back.

Sure, publications can be nice for SEO – but all they generally care about is details and expensive designers. Not to mention, most publications are nowhere near inclusive and that is not in line with our values.

We love photographing your details; jewelry, clothing, and florals, just to name a few – but it will always be with the intention of making amazing memories for you, not for submitting to a blog.
